Landfall – Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet

Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet’s Landfall will be released on Nonesuch Records on February 16, 2018. The piece, which was inspired by Anderson’s experience of Hurricane Sandy, is the first collaboration between the iconic storyteller/musician and the groundbreaking string quartet, who perform together on the recording. Landfall juxtaposes lush electronics and strings with Anderson’s powerful descriptions of loss, from water-logged pianos to disappearing animal species to Dutch karaoke bars.

Rhiannon Giddens – Tomorrow Is My Turn

Nonesuch Records is a progressive record label. It has the heart to take risks with artists for the sake of music creativity. T Bone Burnett has the midas touch when it comes to music production and defining artists.

T Bone Burnett states that Ms. Giddens has “a pretty profound gift.” “I’ve been doing this for 50 years, and I haven’t seen anything like it, ” he comments.

Rhiannon Giddens, singer, songwriter, and founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, makes her solo recording debut with Tomorrow Is My Turn, due out February 10, 2015, on Nonesuch Records. The album was produced by T Bone Burnett.

Rhiannon Giddens is a star in ascension. I recall vividly watching her perform with the Carolina Chocolate Drops when they headlined the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in 2010.

Giddens participated in “Another Day, Another Time”, a concert inspired by the Coen brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis.[3] Many critics have stated that Giddens had the best performance at what was called “the concert of the year”.[4][5]

Four of the songs from her solo album are available for listening Rhiannon Giddens YouTube Channel, “Don’t Let It Trouble Your Mind”, “Black Is The Color”,  and “She’s Got You”.

I love what I am hearing and can’t wait to get her album soon 🙂

lullaby and The Ceaseless Roar – Robert Plant

Robert Plant’s new album, lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar, will be released September 9 on Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Robert Plant, the album is his label début and features 11 new recordings, nine of which are original songs written by Plant with his band, The Sensational Space Shifters.

“It’s really a celebratory record, powerful, gritty, African, Trance meets Zep,” Plant says. “The whole impetus of my life as a singer has to be driven by a good brotherhood. I am very lucky to work with The Sensational Space Shifters. They come from exciting areas of contemporary music…I have been around awhile and I ask myself, do I have anything to say? Is there a song still inside me? In my heart? I see life and what’s happening to me. Along the trail there are expectations, disappointments, happiness, questions and strong relationships,” Plant explains, “… and now I’m able to express my feelings through melody, power and trance; together in a kaleidoscope of sound, colour, and friendship.”

Here is an Official Track, “Rainbow”…

Collaboration: Pat Metheny and John Zorn

The latest Pat Metheny collaboration with John Zorn,  Tap: The Book of Angels Vol. 20 is available for purchase and digital download. The recording is available both on Pat Metheny’ s Nonesuch label and John Zorn’s Tadzik label. I chose the Tzadik iTunes download based on cover design and format (AAC = MP4 vs. MP3).

Ever curious, courageous and endlessly creative, virtuoso guitarist and musical mastermind Pat Metheny takes on John Zorn’s Masada songbook to create some of the most soulful and adventurous sounds yet heard in the Book of Angels series. Turn up the volume and revel in the breadth of imagination in these remarkable arrangements featuring Pat on a huge arsenal of instruments, and the powerful Antonio Sanchez on drums. Pat Metheny continues to surprise and experiment with new musical frontiers well into the 21st century. Released in coordination with Nonesuch, this is a match made in Heaven—essential!
