It was a rare privilege to sit with Iggy as he downloaded the story of The Stooges. He’s an incredible storyteller with a fantastic memory and a great sense of humor, and he held nothing back. The Stooges were pioneers in sound, look, and live presentation, and along the way invented a genre-punk rock-and influenced countless others that followed. There was no precedent in rock music for what they did. They’re definitely the only group in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who started out playing an amplified Waring blender, a vacuum cleaner, spring water bottles and a 200 gallon oil drum. – Jeff Gold, Author of 101 Essential Rock Records
The author team Jeff Gold, Johan Kugelberg and editor/contributor Jon Savageare among the most respected music authors and historians working today. Total Chaos will also feature contributions from Jack White, Joan Jett, Johnny Marr and Third Man’s Ben Blackwell. Now that’s what I call curation!
I can’t wait to get my hands on this essential rock book! Where is the pre-order link, Third Man Books? 😉
I don’t get HBO on my Optimum Cablevision system. I was thankful that Rolling Stone Magazine posted information that the full HBO Nirvana Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014 induction ceremony was available on YouTube.
If you love Grunge Rock and emotionally inspirational live music performances you should watch the 38:39 YouTube HD video segment. It also includes the three-minute video intro, featuring archival commentary from Kurt Cobain and reflective asides from drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic.
“It is the highest calling for an artist, as well as the greatest possible privilege, to capture a moment, to find the zeitgeist, to expose our struggles, our aspirations, our desires, to embrace and define their time,” he says. “That is my definition of an artist. Nirvana captured lightning in a bottle. – Micheal Stipe, R.E.M. Induction Speech”
There are four wide-ranging performances, with Grohl, Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear joined by four female rock icons. Joan Jett helps out with a seering “Smells Like Teen Spirit”; Sonic Youth vocalist-bassist Kim Gordon adds abrasive wails to “Aneurysm”; St. Vincent’s Annie Clark helps out with “Lithium” and Lorde assist on “All Apologies.”
Tell you later where I went and what I bought. Thanking my loving wife for the $25 gift certificate. You are the music of my heart Rosemary ~major kisses~
Later that day…
