Miles Ahead Biopic Recorded Music Projects

Miles Ahead (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The music recorded for the Miles Davis Biopic, Miles Ahead is pure improvisational genius. The Miles Ahead (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) has original Miles Davis recordings plus new material composed by Robert Glasper performed by Don Cheadle on-screen (where trumpeter Keyon Harrold managed to dub in sensational Miles-like horn parts).

What can I say about Robert Glasper’s contribution to this project? I am in awe of what he has crafted with Don Cheadle and others. Scoring the film proved one of the biggest challenges of Glasper’s career.

“It was amazing, enlightening, hard, stressful, challenging – all of that,” Glasper said.

One of my favorite tracks is “Gone 2015”, featuring Pharoahe Monch.

Don Cheadle is a huge supporter of my music and is a fan and he reached out,” energetic Monch relayed. “We worked on some original stuff and the shit came out so Illmatic. We were in the mad old school style studio with all the instruments with the wood panels and piano, horns and all that stuff. We wound up working on this one joint. It was me, Robert and Keyon Harrold—who actually played trumpet on the song and throughout the film—and we came up with an ill joint and [Sony Pictures Classics] loved it. We just kept it raw. We actually just kept it like we did in the studio; just mad raw but when you hear it in the soundtrack, it will actually be mixed.” – courtesy of HipHopDx http://hiphopdx.com/news/id.38137/title.pharoahe-monch-talks-working-with-don-cheadle-on-miles-ahead-soundtrack

Robert Glasper was given full reign to sample, rework, and reinterpret anything in the Sony Miles Davis catalog that he pleased. He came away with a warm, life-affirming album of eleven reinvented Miles classics.

One highlight track is “Violets,” a collaboration with North Carolina hip-hop veterans Phonte of the hip-hop soul outfit the Foreign Exchange and producer 9th Wonder.

Born to Be Blue – Ethan Hawke

Spring 2016 offers jazz fans some great choices for famous trumpet player movies. I reported earlier on the Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead, starring Don Cheadle which opens April 1st in limited theaters (NY/LA). I am invited to attend the advance screening earlier in New York City as an IndieGoGo contributor but I have a schedule conflict that night darn it all.

I was just informed by the 92nd Street Y that Ethan Hawke will be appearing there with his new film about Chet Baker, Born to Be Blue on March 17th. He will conduct an interview after the screening. How cool is that 😉

For those of you who know about and for those of you I am just informing Don Cheadle, actor and producer is making his directorial début with a film entitled, Miles Ahead. It’s a movie about Miles Davis‘s silent period between 1975 to 1979. Don Cheadle also plays Miles Davis in the movie. Filming has commenced in Cincinnati, Ohio.

We have a fantastic opportunity  through crowdfunding to get in on the ground floor of this paramount film and its original soundtrack recording.

Thank you Don Cheadle for the invitation. I just made a contribution. Give this project your consideration 🙂
