The Grateful Dead album that entered directly into the music of our heart is Anthem of the Sun. I discovered the magic of the Dead in concert by reading a passionate article in Circus Magazine in ’68. The author described a concert in the desert that piqued my interest as it highlighted this recording.
I went to my local record store the following day and purchased Anthem. I melded with that sonic experience as the LP played on the hi-fi in my room. The recording has been etched in my psyche ever since. Anthem of the Sun defines psychedelic music to my DNA without having to ingest the hallucinogen 😉
I was elated to read about the 50th-anniversary edition becoming available in various media formats. The two options that interest me the most are the high-definition FLAC (Fidelity Lossless Audio Codec) 192 kHz/24 bit release and the vinyl picture disc edition.
I love the poster art of Stanley Mouse. This beautiful painting was done to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Grateful Dead being in our lives. You can order one of these exclusive works of art here.

Speaking of video clips there are a couple of videos songs from the new album available for viewing.
1) Water – Check out the lyric video for album cut “Water,” a blues-rocker with a classic Sixties feel that examines water conservation. It’s an issue that matters to Burdon, who’s lived in the arid Southern California landscape for years.
“Some people are squandering the world’s most precious resource while others have too little clean water to drink,” said Burdon. “At the same time, we have tsunamis and cities under water. And yet, we still ignore Mother Nature’s warnings. I sing this song in the hope that I can bring some balance to the issue, to bring some awareness of the importance of water to our future on the planet.”
2) Devil and Jesus – The video includes vivid illustrated lyrics.
