Be the agent of change as we all have many rivers to cross.
Disruption is a positive and necessary phase in the human evolution. Who better than David Lynch to lead the charge in October in LA. I’d love to attend this event as a major fan of David Lynch’s genius.
I see the music of Twin Peaks, which I find hauntingly beautiful, will be performed at this event.
The Montreux Jazz Festival is the premier music festival in the world. It is held annually on Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland. The Montreux Jazz Festival will celebrate its 50th year with a stellar lineup of artists.
On the marquee among others: Neil Young, PJ Harvey, Sigur Rós, Patti Smith, Lana Del Rey, M83, Muse, Ernest Ranglin, Scofield Mehldau Guiliana, Christian Scott, Jean-Michel Jarre, Woodkid and friends, Beirut, Grimes…
The festival takes place from July 1 through July 16. Being able to experience this festival one day is high on my bucket list 😉
The Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York 2016 validates why New York City is the music entertainment capitol of the world! Nearly a month’s worth of quality music events will take place all over the city. A stimulating array of innovative composers, musicians, and directors.
The lineup for Festival 21 International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven, CT is announced. The event takes place from June 10-25th. It’s awesome!
I am especially psyched that the Maria Schneider Orchestra will be performing this year.
Watch the video and feel the excitement for this world recognized event.
Having traveled to and experienced first hand the rich music landscape of Tennessee last year (Memphis and Nashville) I find it just and fitting that Knoxville is the host community for the innovative Big Ears Festival, 2016.
The Big Ears Festival is a dynamic, interactive experience that explores connections between musicians and artists, crossing all musical genres while interfacing with film, performance and the visual arts.
I think the 2016 festival is quite eclectic. I especially like that Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson are performing together. For those with avant-garde tastes you have Anthony Braxton in attendance as both the Anthony Braxton Trio and the Anthony Braxton Tentet+1.
Winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Music, composer John Luther Adams will serve as Composer-in-Residence for the 2016 edition of the internationally acclaimed Big Ears Festival, taking place in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.
It’s getting close to that exciting time of the publishing season when Patti Smith’s new book, M Train, is about to become available.
My wife and I had attended a previous talk when Patti Smith introduced her first non-fiction novel, Just Kids. We saw Patti speak at the 92nd Street Y with Sam Shepard. It was an illuminating evening for us. We purchased Just Kids that January 21st, 2010 evening. Patti Smith autographed our copy for us. 🙂
Just Kids has become my favorite book of the millennium. It has won the National Book Award, deservedly so. I am eager to read the next phase of Patti’s life, M Train.
We are ticketed to see Patti Smith conduct a talk at The New Yorker Festival 2016 on October 3rd. It is very special for us that the event takes place at the School of Visual Arts Theatre on West 23rd Street in Chelsea. Our son is an alumni of SVA (2008) and this brings it home for us as we adore our son, SVA and Patti Smith.
We have our fingers crossed that we can once again purchase a copy of Patti Smith’s new book, M Train and that she will be autographing copies that evening.
Patti Smith is a writer, performer, and visual artist. Her 1975 album “Horses” has been hailed as one of the top hundred début albums of all time. In 2005, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication awarded her the title of Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, the highest honor awarded to artists by the French Republic. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Her memoir “Just Kids” received a 2010 National Book Award. Her new book, “M Train,” will be released on October 6th.
